The Met Office continue to issue several red and amber warnings for high winds and heavy rain across several parts of England, warning of widespread impact on people’s lives.
With more high winds forecast over the Winter months ensure that you maintain on-going checks on your sites to make sure that these winds do not pose a risk to any works being undertaken or to any sites being left unattended.

What you must do to stay safe during high winds:
- All fencing should be installed in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions (including required bracing).
- Fencing should be secured to a permanent structure so that it cannot move.
- Remove signage, Monoflex, debris netting and acoustic barriers from fencing and scaffolding.
- Remove and store materials so that they cannot be blown around sites.
- All Heras fencing should be double clipped, check all clips as they can become damaged and work loose over time.
- Reduce the volume of spoil heaps where possible.
- Avoid work at height during these conditions.
- All excavations, scaffolding and other temporary works should be inspected by a competent person before works recommence. Record inspections in the relevant register.
- High winds and rain also make for challenging travelling and driving conditions so please plan your drive, be aware of the weather and leave enough time for your journey.
