Making the railway accessible for all

Our Rail team continues to achieve significant milestones in the ongoing enhancement works as part of the Access For All (AFA) scheme. At Barnes Station, all steelwork for the new set of stairs, lift shafts, and bridge span has been successfully installed, along with three sets of new staircases, two bridge spans, and link lobbies. To minimise disruption to the local road network during one of the several recent weekend possessions, our team collaborated with the Barnes Wetland Centre, allowing us to utilise their space for the efficient transportation of steelwork by delivery vehicles.

Meanwhile, at Motspur Park Station, preparations are underway for the installation of steelwork for the new bridges. At Stoneleigh Station, our team recently completed a successful possession over the Easter weekend. They efficiently lifted and installed two sets of staircases, link lobbies, and trestles to the east and west platforms using a 650-tonne crane, completing all works a remarkable 6 hours ahead of schedule to the delight of our customer. Additionally, the improvement works at Isleworth Station will soon be open to the public.

Congratulations and thank you to everyone involved for your safe and efficient work to progress these important works that will allow passengers with impairments to travel in and around the stations with ease.
