Our Regional Civil Engineering (RCE) team recently welcomed the new MP for South East Cornwall Anna Gelderd, to the A38 Notter Bridge project, where our team are carefully progressing towards completion of drainage improvement works in Saltash. During her visit, Ms. Gelderd commended the team on their impressive progress and expressed her heartfelt appreciation for theinsightful tour of this important project. The visit made headlines on BBC news.
In recent years there has been a significant percentage of rain-related collisions in the location and was identified as a designated flooding hot spot, creating a hazard for road users alongside a caravan park nearby. The improvement works will mitigate further flooding on land close to the River Lynher.
The team started the works in September this year and are on track to complete mid-December ahead of the Christmas period. The work also involves the replacement of existing drainage pipes and gullies, significant vegetation clearance, barrier renewal, waterproofing and resurfacing.
As part of the drainage improvement works, road closures have been implemented, including the suspension of a local bus stop. Recognising the potential inconvenience to the community, the Octavius team collaborated with National Highways to provide an alternative solution—a dedicated taxi service to ensure residents could continue traveling seamlessly.
In addition, the team has successfully maintained a two-way traffic system, ensuring smooth traffic flow and minimising delays during the works. Our customer, National Highways have expressed their delighted with the teams proactive approach and commitment for arranging alternative travel solutions for the local community.
