Our Rail Services team recently welcomed local Gloucester MP, Richard Graham, to Gloucester Station to showcase the on-site progress since the start of the project in October 2023. Richard Graham MP was joined by Great Western Railway’s (GWR) Business Development Portfolio Director, Tom Pierpoint, and the wider project team. Both Mr Graham MP and Mr Pierpoint stated that they were pleased with the progress on-site so far, which will ultimately improve the station underpass safety for the public. The visit made headlines in the Rail Business Daily news, publishing the engaging activities involving the team on the day.
Forecourt reconstruction, car park and underpass upgrade works are currently underway at Gloucester Station, and is part of a wider £6million infrastructure development scheme to enhance the station and improve passenger safety and accessibility. More particularly it includes removing a blind corner in the station’s subway and making it step-free to ensure it is fully accessible for all, as well as installing better lighting and CCTV.Deep drainage in the main car park has now been completed, with formation and finishing works soon to be completed. The team will then progress onto stabilisation works for the the wing walls to the underpass.
Everyone Home Safe Everyday
Ensuring our whole team are aligned with our safety journey and culture, Mick Reeves, our STOPThink! lead, recently hosted our award winning STOPThink! programme with the project team. The training included our colleagues from Octavius and our supply chain partner, CK Rail, and was completed in two separate sessions over two days to allow half of the team to continue with operational work. Mick shared our safety culture and coached the team to understand why we do things the way that we do, empowering them to think differently and make better decisions, helping everyone get home safe every day.
Our STOPThink! cultural development programme was launched as a concept in 2011. Since then it has enabled colleagues, suppliers and customers to think differently, encouraging us to make better decisions and change lives. It is part of the DNA of Octavius. We believe our STOPThink! programme helps everyone become confident leaders in health, safety and wellbeing, and is crucial in our roadmap to successful, assured and safe delivery for our customers.
