Prevent waste on your project by leaning on Lean

Our Lean Waste Identification dashboard has been updated on the Lean Launch Pad. This month inventory was leading ahead, this is mainly caused by materials and tools not being stored and tidied away correctly as well as being available when it is not required, a result of poor inventory management. Not only does this lead to double handling, defects and increased costs it is also a hazard to the workforce and general public.

The main wastes are often referred to as the acronym TIMWOODS : transportation, inventory, movement, waiting, overproduction, over processing, defects and skills. Lean is proven to cut costs, increase production and efficiency.

To help reduce waste, follow the the “5s”  technique to encourage workplace organisation and reduce risk of waste.

Remember… If you identify waste on your project or have an idea about how to improve a method of working, you can raise an Improvement Opportunity.
